The 18th Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has announced to conduct voting on 543 seats across the country in seven phases.

The election campaign for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections in the country came to a halt on Saturday evening. Now tomorrow i.e. on May 13, in the fourth phase, voting will be held on 96 seats in nine states and one union territory. In this phase, polling will be held on all 25 seats of Andhra Pradesh and 17 seats of Telangana. At the same time, voting is to be held on 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, 8 in West Bengal, 8 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 in Bihar, 4 each in Jharkhand and Odisha as well as one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.

1717 candidates in fray in 4th phase

A total of 1717 candidates from different political parties are in the fray in the fourth phase. These include 454 candidates in Andhra Pradesh, 55 in Bihar, 24 in Jammu and Kashmir, 45 in Jharkhand, 74 in Madhya Pradesh, 298 in Maharashtra, 37 in Odisha, 525 in Telangana, 130 in Uttar Pradesh and 75 in West Bengal. In this phase, the likes of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra, TMC candidate and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan and senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Union Minister and former Jharkhand CM Arjun Munda. Celebrities are trying their luck.

Key candidates in phase 4

Akhilesh Yadav: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh. BJP has made Subrata Pathak its candidate against him. In the last Lok Sabha elections 2019, BJP's Subrata Pathak had defeated Samajwadi Party candidate and Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple Yadav.

Mahua Moitra: Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra is contesting elections from Krishnanagar, Bengal on TMC ticket. BJP has fielded Amrita Roy against him. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mahua Moitra defeated BJP's Kalyan Choubey.

Yusuf Pathan vs Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: TMC candidate and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan and senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury are contesting against each other in Baharampur, West Bengal. BJP has fielded Nirmal Kumar from this seat. Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary has been the Congress MP from this seat continuously since 1999 and is contesting for the sixth time.

Giriraj Singh: Union Minister Giriraj Singh is contesting from Begusarai in Bihar. India alliance has fielded CPI's Avadhesh Kumar Rai as its candidate against him. Giriraj Singh defeated Kanhaiya Kumar in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

YS Sharmila: YS Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Reddy, is contesting elections from Kadapa on Congress ticket. This YSRCP has made YS Avinash Reddy its candidate against him.

Arjun Munda: Union Minister and former CM of Jharkhand Arjun Munda is contesting on BJP ticket from Khunti seat. Congress has made Kalicharan Munda its candidate against him. Arjun Munda had won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by only 1445 votes.

Shatrughan Sinha: TMC has fielded actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol, West Bengal. CPI (M) has fielded Jahanara Khan and BJP has fielded SS Ahluwalia against him. In the 2022 Lok Sabha by-election, Shatrughan Sinha defeated BJP's Agnimitra Paul.

Asaduddin Owaisi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi is contesting elections from Hyderabad. BJP has fielded actress-turned-politician Madhavi Latha Telangana, while Congress has fielded Mohammad Waliullah Sameer and BRS has fielded Gaddam Srinivas Yadav. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi defeated BJP's Bhagwant Rao.

The 18th Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has announced to conduct voting on 543 seats across the country in seven phases. Voting has taken place on more than half of these 285 seats in three phases. There are still four phases of voting left.
