After being questioned by the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Monday over allegations against Union Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh before the deadline submitted his response, as the poll panel asked him to prove his claim. The official statement for the same is awaited.

According to the sources, Jairam Ramesh said that the disclosure was made to "safeguard the Constitution which the Election Commission is also bound to protect."

Questioning the double standards of the poll panel, the Congress leader asked why it didn't take any action on the violation of the Model Code of Conduct by BJP leaders.

It is worth noting that the statement from the Election Commission came after Jairam Ramesh alleged that Amit Shah had called 150 District Magistrates in an attempt to influence the officials ahead of Lok Sabha election results on June 4.

Meanwhile, Ashok Gehlot, the former chief minister of Rajasthan, taking it to his official X handle said that it is beyond comprehension that the Election Commission has asked Jairam Ramesh for the proof of the allegations. He said that allegations were made based on the feedback received by the leader of any political party.

Gehlot further highlighted that if the allegation is false then the Home Minister should have denied the same himself, instead the Election Commission asking for proof. He called this trend unfortunate.
