The Candidate: Born on June 4, 1984, in Sokkampatti near Chinnathpuram in Karur, Kuppusamy Annamalai hails from a farming family. He belongs to the Kongu Vellala Gounder community. His father, Kuppuswamy, and mother, Parameshwari, raised him in a humble environment. Annamalai is happily married to Akila Swaminathan.

Education and academic feats

Annamalai received his early education in Karur and Namakkal districts before settling in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He pursued his higher studies at the Coimbatore College of Technology, where he earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently, he furthered his academic journey by completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Marketing and Strategy from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow), Uttar Pradesh. His educational achievements laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors.

Career as an IPS officer

In 2011, Annamalai embarked on a distinguished career in the Indian Police Service (IPS). His tenure commenced in September 2013 as the Assistant Superintendent of Police of Karkala Sub Division in Udupi District. Recognizing his potential, he was promoted to the position of Superintendent of Police in the same location on January 1, 2015, where he served diligently until August 2016. Subsequently, he assumed the role of District Superintendent of Police in Chikmagalur district, Karnataka, until October 2018. Annamalai's exemplary service earned him promotion as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South, in 2018.

Transition into politics

In 2019, Annamalai made a pivotal decision to resign from his esteemed position in the police force and return to his roots in Tamil Nadu. Driven by his passion for natural farming, he immersed himself in agricultural pursuits. However, his commitment to serving the community led him to the realm of politics. Inspired by the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Annamalai joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

Political ascent

Annamalai's foray into politics culminated in his candidacy in the Tamil Nadu 2021 Assembly Elections from the Aravakurichi Assembly Constituency. Although he faced defeat by a narrow margin, his dedication and leadership qualities did not go unnoticed. Following the appointment of L. Murugan as Union Minister, Annamalai was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Tamil Nadu state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party as its President, a testament to his rising influence and stature within the party.
