Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jayant Sinha on Wednesday responded to the show cause notice sent by the party asking him, why he did not vote in the Lok Sabha Elections and participated in any election campaigning. Sharing the response on his official X handle, Sinha said that he was ‘Surprised’ to see the notice. He mentioned that he voted through the postal ballot process as he had some personal commitments overseas.

He mentioned that ahead of the elections, “I communicated my decision to step back from electoral responsibilities to focus on combating issues arising from global climate change. This decision was publicly announced via a tweet for clarity and transparency.”

Sinha further said that he mentioned that he will continue working with the party on economic and governance issues.

Wrongly alleged by the party

Jayant Sinha, in the response also highlighted that not a single senior party official or MP/MLA from Jharkhand reached out to him post his announcement on March 2. I was not invited to any party events, rallies, or organizational meetings. “If Shri Babu Lal Marandi ji wanted me to participate, he could have certainly called me. But he did not,” he added.

He further said that he left India on May 10 to attend to some pressing personal commitments overseas. He alleged that the party did not ask him to participate in any events, so he saw no reason to stay. But before leaving India, he sent his vote through the postal ballot process. Therefore, it is wrong for the party to allege that he did not exercise his responsibility to vote.
