Barely two weeks left for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and the Congress has launched its party manifesto on Friday at All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi. Congress has named its election manifesto 'Nyay Patra' which is based on theme ‘Justice’, captioning it ‘Haath Badlega Halaat’.

All the top leaders of the party including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi were seen unveiling the ‘Nyay Patra’.

In the manifesto the party has promised to abolish the statehood in Jammu and Kashmir, legal guarantee to MSP, among others.

Congress Manifesto: Nyay ka dastavez and its five pillars

On the Congress manifesto, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said, "This manifesto of ours will be remembered as 'Nyay ka dastavez' in the political history of the country that will focus on ‘Panch Nyay’ focused on five pillars during the Bharat Jodi Nyay yatra: Yuva Nyay, Kisan Nyay, Naari Nyay, Shramik Nyay and Hissedari Nyay was announced. Out of these five pillars, 25 guarantees emerge, and in every 25 guarantees, someone or the other gets benefited, under this, we have our manifesto here..."

It also highlights the promises the party made to the public as part of its poll promises for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

The party also states in its manifesto that it will pass a constitutional amendment raising the 50% cap on reservations for SC, ST, and OBC, as well as undertake a national socioeconomic and caste census to count the castes and subcastes and their socioeconomic situations.

Congress Manifesto: Here are some of the key take aways

Equity

The Congress guarantees that it will pass a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SC, ST and OBC. In addition to this, the reservation of 10 per cent in jobs and educational institutions for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will be implemented for all castes and communities without discrimination.

GST Laws

The GST laws enacted by the BJP/NDA government with GST 2.0 will be revoked. The new GST regime will be based on the universally accepted principle that GST shall be a single, moderate rate (with a few exceptions) will be introduced that will not burden the poor, says Congress

Promise to double the GDP in the next 10 years

The Congress party promised double the GDP in the next 10 years and is committed to rapid growth and generation of wealth.

Health

Focusing on health, the party promised to expand the mid-day meal scheme up to class 12, that will help addressing the nutritional deficiency among children. In addition to this, the contribution of the Central government to the pay of frontline health workers (such as ASHA, Anganwadi, Mid-Day Meal cooks, etc.) will be doubled. One government medical college-cum-hospital is among the promises made in manifesto.

Jobs

Congress guarantees a new Right to Apprenticeship Act to provide a one year apprenticeship with a private or a public sector company to every diploma holder or college graduate below the age of 25. Apprentices will get Rs 1 lakh a year. The apprenticeship will impart skills, enhance employability and provide full-time job opportunities for millions of youth. The party will also provide sports scholarships of Rs 10,000 per month for talented and budding sportspersons below the age of 21.

Women Empowerment

Focusing on women empowerment, Congress promised to launch a Mahalakshmi scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family as an unconditional cash transfer. The poor will be identified among the families in the bottom of the income pyramid. The manifesto also promises to reserve one-half (50 per cent) of central government jobs for women starting in 2025.

Focusing Farmers

Congress will give a legal guarantee to the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) announced by the government every year, as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission. Will establish farmers’ retail markets in large villages and small towns to enable the farmers to bring their produce and sell the same to consumers.

Agnipath program to be abolished

The party’s manifesto said that it will abolish Agnipath program and direct Armed Forces to resume normal recruitment to achieve full sanctioned strength.

Apart from this, there are several other promises, like modification in foreign policy, water management, internal security, national security, development are among announcment by the party. Congress Party President Mallikarjun Kharge asserted that the manifesto will be remembered for delivering justice, focusing on five nyays with 25 guarantees.
