Ayodhya, the religiously significant city in Uttar Pradesh, has long been considered a stronghold for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party anticipated a sweeping victory here, expecting the margin of victory to be substantial. However, the results were contrary to their expectations, with BJP candidate Lallu Singh losing to Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Awadhesh Prasad by a significant margin. Prasad now claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had considered contesting from Ayodhya but backed out due to fears of defeat.

Awadhesh Prasad's Bold Assertions

Speaking to the media, Awadhesh Prasad said, "This victory belongs to the people of Ayodhya. The BJP, which claims to represent Ram, has been exposed as hypocrites who merely exploit Ram's name for political gain. The Prime Minister himself wanted to contest from here but retracted after receiving intelligence reports that this seat was unsafe."

Who is Awadhesh Prasad?

Awadhesh Prasad is a veteran leader of the Samajwadi Party, closely associated with Mulayam Singh Yadav. Hailing from the Dalit community, Prasad began his political career with the Janata Party in 1977. He was first elected as an MLA from the Sohawal assembly in Ayodhya and has since won the assembly elections eight times since 1985. Currently an MLA, Prasad has now been elected as an MP.
