Ajay Banga, president of the World Bank, has been named in the annual Great Immigrants list of honorees who have improved and bolstered America and its democracy by their efforts and deeds.Carnegie Corporation has recently shared the list of great immigrants who have worked for America. In this years list of “Great Immigrants” by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Notably, Banga is the only honoree from India.The 63-year-old Banga is anticipated to introduce revolutionary ideas at the World Bank to battle poverty and manage climate change, creating possibilities for people all across the world, according to a statement released by Carnegie on Wednesday. Banga has over 30 years of experience in critical positions.Banga began his career in India, working for Nestle India for 13 years and PepsiCo for two years. He joined Citigroup in 1996 and rose to become CEO of the Asia-Pacific region. After relocating to the United States, Banga spent 12 years leading Mastercard as president and CEO before being named executive chairman. Under his leadership, Mastercard launched the Centre for Inclusive Growth, which advances equitable and sustainable economic growth and financial inclusion around the world.Before getting appointed to the World Bank, Banga was serving as vice chairman at General Atlantic. He is also cofounder of the Cyber Readiness Institute and served as vice chair of the Economic Club of New York. Banga was also awarded the Foreign Policy Association Medal, the Padma Shri Award by the president of India, and the Ellis Island Medal of Honour.Notably, every year in July, Carnegie Corporation of New York celebrates a group of remarkable Americans. This year, the organisation has honoured 35 people from a wide range of backgrounds.
