USD 350 voucher in exchange for trauma? Air India issues apology after 30-hour delay in flight

The step as a gesture of apology has come from Air India after almost 220 passengers got stranded at the airport for nearly 30 hours after a technical glitch in Delhi-San Francisco flight.

Air India on Saturday apologized and offered a travel voucher of USD 350 to every passenger on the aircraft from Delhi to San Francisco, which was delayed by more than 30 hours. Finally, at 9:55 pm on Friday, the flight left the nation's capital and arrived in San Francisco at 12:45 pm (IST) on Saturday. The flight took almost sixteen hours to complete.

The step as a gesture of apology has come after almost 220 passengers got stranded at the airport for almost 30 hours after a technical glitch in the airplane. Klaus Goersch, Air India Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, issued a letter to passengers apologizing for the inconvenience and wrote, “Please allow me to sincerely apologize, on behalf of Air India, for the extended delay in bringing you to San Francisco, which was caused by several technical delays and other operational constraints.”

According to the letter dated May 31, as a gesture of apology, Air India has provided a "travel voucher worth USD 350" for future travel with the airline, according to a letter dated May 31. It also says that passengers can also credit the amount instead of redeeming it for travel.

"We are very sorry for this lapse in our service and the inconvenience caused to you," the letter further reads.
Reportedly, the Delhi-San Francisco flight was initially planned to take off at 3.30 pm on Thursday but got delayed due to a technical glitch and other multiple factors after which the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show cause notice to Air India to respond on delays. The notice cited to respond on delay of two flights, AI 183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30 and AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24.
