Dabur India, on Wednesday, informed that its subsidiaries were among companies sued in the US and Canada. According to the information, the subsidiaries are sued by the customers alleging that the use of hair relaxer products had caused ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, and other health issues.

“Currently, the cases are in the pleadings and early discovery phases of litigation,” it said in an exchange filing, adding the allegations are based on “unsubstantiated and incomplete” study.

Meanwhile, the consumer goods company reported that multi-district litigation brought before a US District Court in Illinois involves over 5,400 instances against several businesses, including its subsidiaries Namaste Laboratories, Dermoviva Skin Essentials, and Dabur International.

According to the company, the units have hired defence counsel and denied any wrongdoing.

Dabur India, which offers the brands of Vatika Shampoo and Honitus cough medicine, stated that it was unable to estimate the financial impact of a settlement or verdict outcome at this time but anticipated that it would happen soon.

A request for additional information made outside of regular business hours did not immediately receive a response from the corporation.
