Uber, the ride-hailing app announced its partnership with various electric vehicle makers and other entities in India to accelerate the transition of its partners towards sustainable mobility on Wednesday.
The business has reportedly increased its collaboration with EV fleet partners Lithium Urban Technologies, Everest Fleet Pvt Ltd, and Moove in order to deploy 25,000 electric vehicles in India on the Uber platform over the course of the next two years. Additionally, Uber announced that it will work with Zypp Electric to deploy 10,000 electric two-wheelers in Delhi by 2024.
Moreover, the company has also announced a partnership with SIDBI to unlock the financing of Rs 1,000 crore.
According to a statement from Uber, the company is expanding its international collaboration with BP to India through Jio-bp and has partnered with GMR Green Energy to provide fast charging for Uber electric vehicles. The San Francisco-based company also announced the launch of Uber Green in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, beginning in June, as part of its environmental initiative.
With the Uber Green programme, customers can select an all-electric, zero-emission vehicle instead of a typical fossil-fuelled vehicle.
The most extensively used on-demand mobility service for zero- or low-emission rides is currently Uber Green, which is offered in more than 100 cities in more than 15 countries.
According to Andrew Macdonald, senior vice president of mobility and business operations at Uber, India is a crucial market for the company, with about 8 lakh active partners currently registered on the platform and a rapidly expanding user base.
According to volume, India is the third-largest market for Uber, and Macdonald said the business would keep making investments there to support further expansion. He said that 125 cities around the nation offer the ride-hailing service.
Currently, Uber is available in 10,000 cities and 70 countries around the world. And, by 2030, Uber promises to be a zero-emission mobility platform.
