TCS fires 16 employees, debars 6 vendor entities after its bribe-for-job probe

In a probe into the bribes-for-jobs scandal at Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) 16 employees were sacked and disbarred six firms. The probe lasted for nearly six months and focused on the scams relating to recruitment process in the company, the company said in an exchange filing on October 15. It took action against 19 employees in total out of which 16 were sacked and 3 were removed from function.

“Our investigation found 19 employees to be involved and action has been taken against all as detailed here – 16 employees have been separated from the Company for code of conduct violations, and 3 employees have been removed from the Resource Management function,” TCS said in an exchange filing.

“Also, six vendor entities, their owners and affiliates have been debarred from doing any business with TCS. Further, TCS would continue to enhance its governance measures, including a) regular rotation of personnel performing key roles in the resource management function, b) enhanced analytics on supplier management, c) periodic declarations by vendors on compliance with the Tata Code of Conduct and know your supplier process to cover additional declarations, and d) Vendor management process audits,” it further added.

The company also said that it does not involve fraud against the company and there is no financial impact. It also added that no key managerial person was involved in this bribery.

TCS CEO last week said…

TCS chief executive K. Krithivasan in an interaction with reporters last week on Wednesday said, “We have completed our investigation. We have taken appropriate action against whosoever had violated the code of conduct. All actions have been taken, and it is closed.”

When he was asked what steps the company was taking to ensure such an incident does not happen in the future, TCS’s chief human resources officer, Milind Lakkad said that the company was looking at organisational, people, process and technological aspects, however, the specifics were not given out.

“All the suggested actions on what we should do from a process, from technology, from a people standpoint, all these actions are very well documented, and I will not get into these for now, but we will look into all these aspects,”
