Srichand Parmanand Hinduja served as the chairman of the business group bearing his name, which controls publicly traded firms in the Indian industries of commercial vehicles, chemicals, banking, and information technology. The eldest of four Hinduja brothers, SP Hinduja died at 87 in London on Wednesday. According to a spokesperson of a family, he was unwell for some time and the cause of death is said to be a form of dementia. 

As per sources, SP Hinduja and his brother Gopichand Hinduja, together, was the richest person in the UK. According to UK-based Rich List 2022, Hinduja topped with an estimated wealth worth Pound 28.472 billion sterling.

He, with his brothers collectively known for their formidable networking and business acumen. Notably, they together grew their business, which includes commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland and IndusInd Bank. Their business was spread over 38 countries, in several sectors such as oil lubricants, chemicals, energy and IT. Reportedly, he started his career with his father in the textile and trading business in Mumbai, India, Tehran, and Pahlavi, Iran. Their businesses included potatoes and onions and iron ore from India to Iran.

Hinduja was known for his business approach was conservative and opportunistic, investing in diversified business sectors ranging from oil & gas, banking & finance, and IT to real estate, energy & chemicals, power, and media & entertainment.

According to the information, almost 200,000 people work for their organisations. SP Hinduja joined his father PD Hinduja, the company’s founder, in the family business in 1952 after finishing his studies. British national SP Hinduja is survived by his two children, Shanu, and Vinoo, as well as his three brothers, Gopichand, Prakash, and Ashok. Reportedly, his wife, Madhu passed away in January 2023.

Several politicians and well-known people from the business industry expressed their condolences for the death of SP Hinduja. Taking it to Twitter, the President of Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav said, “Saddened to hear about the demise of Hinduja Group’s chairman Shri Srichand Parmanand Hinduja. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers.”
