As per the latest statement by the company, Czech car maker Skoda Auto said that by the next year, India will become the export hub for the company as it is all set to commence the export of vehicle kits for assembly in Vietnam.

The company in its reports has declared that they have seen a whopping 125 percent of a year-on-year surge in its vehicle sales at 53,721 units in 2022. The company is hopeful of making the figures double this year as well.

Similarly, Volkswagen Group has recorded the sale of 1,01,270 units which grew 85.48 percent year-on-year.

Under Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWPIL), the Group is represented by the Skoda Auto, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini brands.

Petr Solc, Brand Director at Skoda Auto India, stated that, “India is an absolutely important market as part of our regional strategy of Skoda Auto, and India will become an export hub for Skoda.” While Skoda Auto exports to the Middle East and North Africa, Volkswagen currently ships vehicles from India to Mexico and South Africa. From the following year, we will begin shipping vehicle kits for assembling in Vietnam, he added.

The company also said that export has always been an important part of and will remain to be a part of the strategy of Skoda and Volkswagen.

He stated, “The company would like to grow with the market or even faster and our ambition is to grow into double digits,” pointing out that Skoda Auto India delivered more than 50,000 vehicles for the first time in the domestic market last year. Because of the launch of the Slavia, in 2022, the year was unique for the business.” “So, there was this kind of a one-time effect of any new model introduction.” Now that the brand-new Slavia sedan and Kushaq SUV are out on the market, he continued, “We can enjoy having both models for the full year in the market.”

Solc further said that seven-seater Kodiaq will also play an important role in terms of the growth strategy of the company, especially when the company has more supply now.

During the conference, Christian Cahn Von Seelen, a Member of the Board for sales, marketing, and digital at SAVWPIL, responded to a question about Audi, which for a time held the undisputed leader in the domestic premium luxury car market, by saying that the company’s volume growth in 2022 was “impressive” compared to the year prior, but that growth was still significantly constrained by the chip supply issues, even in Europe.

Apart from this last month, Skoda, the European car maker announced its EV roadmap, which includes six electric cars in a phased manner by 2026. The official from Skoda said that the car market or EV can go up within 5-10 years, up to 20, maybe 30 percent.

He also said that the company is discussing which models it should bring in the future also to India as an EV.
