The Supreme Court has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide the highest-level Z-plus security to industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his family members all across India and abroad. The decision has been taken by a bench of Justices Krishna Murari and Ahsanuddin Amanullah in which they said that it is their opinion that if there is a security threat, the security cover cannot be restricted to a particular area or place of stay.Supreme Court has asked the State of Maharashtra and Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that highest Z+ Security Cover provided to respondents shall be available all across India.“Highest Level Z+ Security Cover, as per the policy of Government of India, be also provided, while Ambanis are travelling abroad and the same shall be ensured by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” the bench said.The top court said the entire expenses and cost of providing Z+ security cover to Ambanis within the territory of India or abroad shall be borne by them only. According to the report, if security coverage is limited to a specific location or area, the fundamental objective of providing security cover would be frustrated when considering the Ambanis business operations in India as well as aboard.“We find that the security cover provided to the respondent nos. 2 to 6 has been the subject matter of controversy at different places and in different high courts,” the bench said.Order came after Public Interest Litigation (PIL) It had granted the Central Governments appeal, which had been made in response to a PIL challenging the Tripura High Courts ruling. The Central government was ordered to place the original file maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding threat perception and assessment report of Ambani, his wife, and children based on which security has been granted to them by the Tripura High Court on May 31 and June 21 in response to a PIL filed by Bikash Saha.The top courts order came on an application filed by petitioner Bikash Saha seeking clarification of its July 22, 2022 order by which it had allowed the Centre to continue with the security cover for Ambani and his family members in Mumbai.Type of VIP securities given in IndiaZ+ category is a security detail of 55 personnel, including 10+ NSG commandos and police personnelZ category is a security detail of 22 personnel, including 4-6 NSG commandos and police personnelY+ category is a security detail of 11 personnel, including 2-4 commandos and police personnelY category is a security detail of 8 personnel, including 1 or 2 commandos and police personnel.X category is a security detail of 2 personnel, with no commandos but only armed police personnel.Z Plus security costs around Rs 33 lakh per month on average.Fame only works when you are safe.
