PRS Oberoi, Executive Chairman of The Oberoi Group passes away

The chairman of the Oberoi Hotels, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi passed away at 94, this morning.

Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, known affectionately as “Biki”, the executive chairman of the Oberoi Group, passed away on Tuesday morning, according to a statement by a spokeswoman of the Oberoi Group. The business tycoon was known for changing the face of the luxury hotels business in India. He was 94.

“It is with profound grief and sorrow that we wish to inform you of the peaceful passing of our beloved leader, Mr. P.R.S. Oberoi, Chairman Emeritus earlier today. His passing is a significant loss for The Oberoi Group and the hospitality industry in India and overseas,” the veteran hotelier's sons Vikram and Arjun Oberoi said in a statement.

Born in 1929, PRS Oberoi “Biki” was the Executive Chairman of The Oberoi Group, which runs a chain of luxury hotels, The Trident hotels and Oberoi Hotels & Resorts., which is the third largest hospitality chain in India.

In 2008, the Indian government presented him with the Padma Vibhusan, the nation's second-highest civilian award, in appreciation of his outstanding contribution to the nation. After his father, Mohan Singh Oberoi, the founder chairman of The Oberoi group, passed away in 2002, the man known as "Biki" assumed leadership of EIH Limited and served as CEO until 2013.
Oberoi gained additional recognition in June 2022 when he was named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Global Hospitality by the International Hospitality Institute's "Global 100 in Hospitality" list.
