Months after the 5G technology came to India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, will launch the 6G Research and Development Test Bed and will also inaugurate the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Innovation Centre at the Vigyan Bhawan. The ITU is a specialised United Nations agency headquartered in Geneva dedicated to information and communication technologies (ICTs).

India in 2022 has signed a host country agreement with ITU for the establishment of an area office, which will serve the nations like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan, and Iran.

According to the information, the Bharat 6G vision document is prepared by the Technology Innovation Group on 6G (TIG-6G) in November 2021 with members of various departments, research and development institutes, standardization bodies, and telecom operators, and industries who will develop the roadmap and plan for the execution of 6G. This will provide an enabling environment for innovation, capacity building, and faster technology adoption in India.

‘Call before u dig’ app

During the address, PM will also launch the app called ‘Call before u dig’. To curb disruption in cable and gas supply, due to digging activities, the Centre has launched this app. The government has suggested that the mobile application be created in such a way that the relevant authorities may work together to prevent harm to the existing underlying utility assets, such as optical fiber cables, water pipes, electric cables, gas pipelines, etc. this will help in curbing the leading loss of about Rs 3,000 crore every year to the country. This will also help the whole of businesses and government to work together and will help in ease of doing business. This will help in the integrated planning and coordination of infrastructure projects under the PM Gati Shakti plan.

The era of 5G in India

In October 2022, India officially entered a new technical era with the debut of the eagerly awaited 5G network, which is expected to offer solid communications infrastructure, seamless coverage, and high data rates with minimal latency. Energy, spectrum, and network efficiency will all rise as a result. Around 13 cities around the nation will be able to access 5G services in the initial phase. 5G technology comes with a wide range of benefits with faster, increased efficiency and network efficiency. 5G has greater potential to connect to the Internet of Things, which also provides higher-quality video service.

Notably, from October 2022 onwards, the network providers have already started providing high-speed 5G internet services in the country. The government has already issued a spectrum notice to service providers to roll out the 5G service plan in the country. The government has received total bids worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore from the 5G spectrum auction.
