According to an official statement, the preparations for the G20 summit and associated activities that will take place in New Delhi in the upcoming months are expected to cost more than Rs 1,000 crore.The city administration and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced on Monday that the cost of beautifying work and other preparations, in addition to updating the municipal infrastructure, will be Rs 1,084 crore. In the beginning of March, Delhi will serve as the location for the main G20 Summit conference and seven additional subsidiary activities.Earlier in February, Delhis Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia wrote to the center, asking for a grant of Rs 927 crore for special development projects related to the G20 summit. Nearly 26 Delhi government departments and agencies are working together to prepare for the G20 Summit.The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Public Works Department (PWD), and the NDMC will be primarily involved with work on civic infrastructure improvement and beautification. According to a senior government official, the PWD, the MCD, and the NDMC are expected to spend, respectively, Rs 448 crore, Rs 249 crore, and Rs 78 crore on it.For the G20 summit, it has been planned to fix roads and pavements, beautify medians, pavements, and traffic islands on significant road lengths, work on lighting and horticulture, install LED lights, and provide electric buses for guests and foreign delegates.
