RTI activist Anil Galgali has been informed by the MMRDA administration that there are 5 other defaulters including Ambani and their total arrears are Rs 5,818 crores.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had asked the MMRDA administration about the notices given to the arrears and the information about the arrears through an RTI. Responding to which MMRDA administration informed Anil Galgali that there are 5 defaulters namely M/s Reliance, Naman Hotel, Ambani Foundation, INS, and Raghulila Builders.

The richest Mukesh Ambani owes Rs 4381 crores

While sharing the information in one of his videos on social media, Galgali said that M/s Reliance, the company of industrialist Mukesh Ambani is the largest defaulter. The arrear of the leased land of the Jio Convention Center ( Plot No. C 64 ) where the marriage ceremony is held at a cost of thousands of crores is a whopping amount of Rs 4381.32 crores.

According to the details, one BKC (Plot No. C 66) has an outstanding balance of Rs 1123.50 Crores. The name of the defaulter is M/s Raghulila Builders. Originally this land also belonged to M/s Reliance. But MMRDA is likely to get the balance of Rs 449.27 crores of additional built-up area. INS (Plot No. C 63) has arrears of Rs.181.35 crores. Ambani Foundation (Plot No. SF 7 & 9B) has arrears of Rs 8.15 crores. Whereas Naman Hotel Limited (Plot No. C 58 and C 59) has arrears of Rs 48.92 crores.

Notably, a penalty is imposed if construction is not completed according to the intended purpose within four years of leasing the land from MMRDA. The CBI, Income Tax Department takes note of it. He further notes that MMRDA has consistently been lenient with defaulters, refraining from taking strict action even though they have the authority to revoke occupancy certificates. Meanwhile, the MMRDA Commissioner has shown particular favour by granting a partial occupancy certificate to Naman Hotel.
