According to the authorities, in a case of suspected fraud that resulted in a loss of more than Rs 405 crore to the State Bank of India, the CBI has charged Pramod Goenka, the missing brother of DB Realty Managing Director Vinod Goenka, and his firm Yash Jewellery.The CBI FIR relates to credit facilities provided by SBI to Pramod Goenka-owned Yash Jewellery, which allegedly went unpaid in 2014, converting the account becomes a non-performing asset. According to the FIR filed in response to a complaint from SBI, Pramod Goenka, Rustom Ariez Tata, and Anant L. Prabhudesai conspired to defraud the bank by allegedly getting it to approve loans totalling Rs 235 crore, which they then reportedly diverted off, resulting in a loss of Rs 405.58 crore.The bank has reported that Yash Jewellery was established in 2007 in partnership with Andin International Inc. New York, which has 40 percent equity. Notably, the stakes of Andin International were bought in 2008.According to the SBI complaint, through a special purpose entity called RD42, which was owned by Pramod Goenka and other stockholders, Yash Jewellery Private Limited acquired a 51 percent interest in Jewel America in 2007.Reportedly, the bank in its complaint on April 12 informed CBI, Pramod Goenka, holding shares in DB Realty is missing since February 2018 and also said that they dont have any information on the status of any share of DB Realty, held by him.As per sources, the 56-year-old businessman went missing in 2018, reportedly kidnapped by an African gang in Mozambique.Pramod got threatened by underworldAs per sources, the brother of Managing Director of Vinod Goenka of DB Realty, Pramod Goenka got threatened by the underworld don Chhota Shakeel after which he was provided with police protection. He also got threats from London-based Iqbal Mirchi. Reportedly, his son Yash also filed a missing complaint in 2018, but the family didnt mention anything linked to his abduction.Notably, according to sources, Pramod was in the jewellery business and had split from his brother from the construction business. Sources also said that it was his third visit to Mozambique in the recent past related to his business.That time, his brother Vinod Goenka also confirmed to the police that he was missing since he landed in Maputo, the capital of a South-eastern African country, where he was believed to be kidnapped. Police also confirmed that the family didnt even receive the ransom call.
