The third wave of job layoffs by Facebook’s parent company Meta has affected 6,000 workers worldwide and had an effect on a number of staff members in India, including top officials and senior executives.
The director of marketing for India, Avinash Pant, the director of media partnerships, Saket Jha Saurabh, and the head of legal for Meta India, Amrita Mukherjee, were reportedly among those fired in India. Prior to joining Meta, Mukherjee was Hotstar’s head of legal. Based on her LinkedIn profile, she has worked for the firm for ten months.
The sources further disclosed that the layoffs in India affected a number of divisions, including marketing, administration, human resources, and others. Meta did not immediately respond when asked about the latest layoffs in India.
After being asked to leave, a staff member named Surabhi Prakash, a Business Engineer at Meta, posted on LinkedIn to convey her feelings. “Sad it ended but happy it happened. The anxiety is finally over,” she added. Employees at all corporate levels were affected by these layoffs.
This most recent wave of layoffs is a part of Meta’s ongoing “Year of Efficiency” initiative, which involves streamlining operations and cutting expenses. The global business divisions of Meta were most severely hit by the layoffs. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, earlier declared in March that the business would eliminate 10,000 positions through a couple of rounds of layoffs planned for late April and late May.
Meta has cut 21,000 jobs across a variety of departments since November 2022. Approximately 4,000 of the 10,000 anticipated job cuts went into effect last month, leaving about 6,000 positions potentially at risk.
