In the latest rise announced Friday, public sector oil marketing companies increased prices of 19kg commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs 21 per unit. This takes the price of commercial gas cylinders in Delhi to Rs 1,7496.
Other metro cities have seen equal price increments, pushing costs higher for hospitality enterprises and street food vendors who typically rely on commercial LPG connections for cooking.
The new price of the commercial LPG cylinder in Mumbai is Rs 1,749, in Chennai, the price will increase to Rs 1,968.5, and in Kolkata, the price will be Rs 1,908 with immediate effect. It is noteworthy that before this hike, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders were reduced by Rs 57 on November 16.
This is the fifth upward revision in commercial LPG rates since September 2022, squeezing margins in pandemic-hit sectors struggling with elevated input costs across the board.
Compared to domestic LPG used by households, commercial gas cylinders have undergone steeper price hikes in line with international benchmarks. However, the latest rise still comes as a fresh blow to small business owners and traders hit hard by the economic ripple effects of the Ukraine war and supply uncertainties.
