Infosys, which is among India’s one of the software exporters, has made the announcement to its employees back to the office for a minimum of ten days each month. According to the sources, some employees of Infosys at the entry to mid-level positions have been informed about the decision.
The company is making this change as part of its efforts to support its hybrid work style and return to office (RTO) strategy. One of Infosys' vice presidents reportedly asked staff members in particular verticals, including those in bands 5 and 6 (comprising mid-level managers, project managers, and entry-level workers), to work from the office for at least ten days each month beginning on November 20, 2023.
This move has followed the recent trend within the IT industry, with companies like Wipro, Capgemini, LTIMindtree, and TCS which has already encouraged the employees to return to the office on a more regular basis. TCS, for instance, has requested its workforce to come to the office five days a week, which will enhance their skills and working ideas.
As Infosys is the second-largest IT firm in India, the decision could impact the flexibility of the work from home option which was initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it is still unclear whether this new mandate will be applicable to all verticals and divisions within the company. The email states that the new requirement is applicable to "employees in India locations", as per sources.
The Infosys email stressed the need of physical closeness and face-to-face cooperation for productive teamwork and professional well-being. It also recognised the necessity of striking a balance between the flexibility of remote work and more in-person interactions.
Thus, this statement comes at a difficult moment, companies are finding it difficult to retain people as a result of the industry's sharp decline in headcount.
