Indian bike maker Hero MotoCorp has experienced a tremendous response to the launch of the Harley-Davidson X440, the world’s cheapest Harley-Davidson motorcycle, receiving over 25,000 booking since opening the bookings on July 4.

Notably, almost 65% of the bookings are for the top-end S variant, priced at ₹2.69 lakh ex-showroom. As a result of the massive number of bookings, Hero’s share prices have gone up by more than 3%.

Responding to the overwhelming demand, Hero MotoCorp increased the prices, and the motorcycle now starts at ₹2,39,500 ex-showroom in Delhi. Due to the high demand, the manufacturer has temporarily closed bookings but is expected to announce the next booking window soon.

Hero MotoCorp, which is the world’s largest motorcycle maker by sales, will commence production of the Harley-Davidson X440 in September 2023, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in October. To meet the soaring demand, Hero MotoCorp is ramping up production of the Harley-Davidson X440 at its Garden Factory in Rajasthan’s Neemrana.

The Harley-Davidson X440 is powered by a brand-new 440 cc air-oil cooled single-cylinder engine that generates 27 bhp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque output of 38 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It comes paired with a 6-speed transmission, offering smooth and powerful performance.

Regarding features, the X440 boasts all LED lighting, a USB port for charging mobile devices, and a 3.5-inch TFT display that showcases a speedometer, tachometer, trip meters, odometer, service indicator, and side-stand alert. Moreover, the motorcycle is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and supports various applications.

Delighted with reponse to Harley-Davidson X440: Hero MotoCorp CEO

“We are delighted with the customer response to Harley-Davidson X440. It is heartening to see the confidence shown by the customers in Hero MotoCorp’s foray into this segment. What is even more heartening is that the majority of our bookings are coming from the top end model, clearly indicating that customers are willing to pay a higher price for the right brand and right model. This is just the beginning of our journey to win in the premium segment. More iconic launches will follow soon, as we ensure our presence across the portfolio,” Niranjan Gupta, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hero MotoCorp, said.

American manufacturer Harley-Davidson partnered with Hero MotoCorp to develop and sell a range of its branded bikes in India, starting with the X440. This collaboration followed the company’s exit from the Indian market and the closure of most of its local dealer network in 2020.
