The Delhi Polices Economic Offences Wing (EOW) launched legal procedures against Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain Grover, and family members Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain, and Shwetank Jain on Wednesday. The complaining party, BharatPe, claimed 81 crores in fraudulent activity in December 2022. According to a copy of the FIR, the EOW received the complaint and investigated the allegations. Early evidence indicates potential violations of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 406/408/409/420/467/468/471/120B, including offences such as criminal violation of trust, cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.Copy of the FIR (Image: Twitter)Charges against Ashneer GroverAshneer Grover, the former Managing Director and co-founder of BharatPe, has been involved in a number of court battles over the last six months. Due to charges of financial irregularities, he was fired from the fintech company in March 2022. BharatPe filed a criminal case as well as a civil suit against Grover and his family in December 2022, alleging fraud and seeking compensation. BharatPe also filed an arbitration claim in Singapore to retrieve limited shares and prevent Grover from using the title “founder.” Another lawsuit was filed against Grover in January 2023 by a former colleague. Grover was also sued by BharatPes co-founder, Shashvat Nakrani, for allegedly underpaid shares.Response of BharatPe on the FIRBharatPe applauded the filing of the FIR, viewing it as a positive step that exposes various dubious activities carried out by the Grover family for financial gain. The corporation expressed faith in the Indian judicial and law enforcement systems, confident that the case will be resolved fairly.
