As everybody knows that India is a key growth market for global restaurant chains, however, the popularity of street food and local chains is a big challenge in the country. But, the world’s one of the largest pizza brands responds to inflation with the cheapest pizza ever in the country.

Yes! You heard it right. The ₹49 pizza in India, Domino’s No.1 market outside America, is the only way to fight against uncontrolled inflation that is compressing profits and pricing out many customers, the officials of the pizza brand said.

It is to be noted here that Domino’s is not the only company zeroing in on prices in India, a highly price-sensitive market that is currently facing higher inflation than many other markets including the U.S. The hope is that low-price offers will increase the footfall to stores and apps who might order more add-ons or upgrade, the executives said.

Here’s what Sameer Khetarpal says

Sameer Khetarpal, AVP of the company wants to ‘own that price point’, and confirmed that the stripped-down, 7-inch cheese pizza with a sprinkle of basil and parsley is Domino’s cheapest anywhere.

He further said that Domino’s global team also supported the plan, “You are coming to the store or open the app because there is a 49-rupee callout,” he said. “Customers are going to eat out less because prices are higher everywhere – our existing consumers should not go out to some competition,” he added.

Domino’s which currently operates at 1,816 locations which are managed by Jubilant Food Works, and Khetarpal says he has a staff meeting the first thing on Mondays to come up with new cost-control measures and combat the ‘historic high inflation’ that caused the company’s profits to decline 70% in the first three months of 2023.

Apart from this, while talking about the dine-in facility, he said that 37% of Domino’s Indian business is dine-in, which translates into a sizable reduction in packing costs.
