A recent report has revealed that the passengers at the airport now spend less time at the baggage counter. The baggage delivery time has been reduced by 30% since January and more than 90% of passengers have been receiving the baggage checked within less than 30 minutes, according to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the security wing of the ministry of civil aviation. According to the statement issued by the civil aviation ministry, the on-time baggage delivery in January has increased to more than 90% from March onwards. The progress has been sustained since then.It is worth noting that the exercise by the BCAS in January was taken into consideration to enhance the baggage delivery system for domestic airlines in six major airports in the country, which include Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. The move was taken to avoid congestion at the airports and to have better security measures. The airlines were asked to ensure that the baggage of the passengers reached to them within 30 minutes of the arrival of the aircraft. The root cause analysis of the situation was jointly done by the BCAS along with domestic airlines. The exercise was conducted on January 14, this year, which resulted that 62.2% of the passengers were getting their baggage in the stipulated time, prescribed by IATA. As per reports, the government will ask international airlines to adhere to the same guidelines to ensure less baggage delivery time.
