According to the information, Apple’s iPhone exports from India saw a stunning increase, topping ₹10,000 crores in May of this year. In April and May 2023, the country’s smartphone exports exceeded ₹20,000 crores. According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association, this is a doubling over the same period last year, when there were ₹9,066 crores.

Due to geopolitical unrest, the tech giant Apple is increasing local production capacity, moving its attention away from China, and attempting to make India a potential hub for its premium devices.

Notably, Apple’s biggest supplier Foxconn will soon start manufacturing iPhones in Karnataka, India, by April 2024, as announced earlier.

According to the project, it will generate about 50,000 jobs. Foxconn, a Taiwanese company, produces the bulk of Apple’s mobile devices.

Since 2017, the company has begun producing older iPhone models at a factory in the adjoining state of Tamil Nadu, India.

Due to the Covid epidemic, geopolitical friction between the US and China, as well as New Delhi’s ambitious Production-linked Incentive (PLI) smartphone programme, Apple Inc. is increasingly turning its attention to India.

Reportedly, Apple submitted a request to the Indian authorities in January 2016 to open its stores there. The same year, India loosened its restrictions on international retailers’ involvement, paving the path for behemoths like Apple and IKEA to open outlets there. Notably, Apple Inc. opened its first online shop in India in September 2020.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, travelled to India in April to celebrate the opening of two retail locations for the premium smartphone brand in Mumbai and New Delhi.
