Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday gave a glimpse of how the budget on February 1 will be like. While speaking at the CII's Global Economic Policy Forum 2023, she said that there would be no 'spectacular announcements' for the interim budget that will be presented on February 1, 2024.

Sitharaman said, "The interim budget that the government presents, is just to be able to meet the expenditure of the government until a new government comes in."

The finance minister also noted that keeping with the tradition, the next budget, which will be her sixth budget, will be an interim budget as Lok Sabha elections are slated for 2024. The complete budget will be presented only after the formation of the new government after general elections in financial year 2025. Accordingly, for 2024-25, the interim budget will be presented on February 1.

It is to be noted here that the process for the interim budget for 2024-25 has already been initiated in the month of September, after inviting inputs on expenditure from various ministries and departments, as per sources.
