The concerened department has issued a notice to Amazon alleging that the online retailer is selling sweets under the name Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad and that the company is involved in deceptive trade practices. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) filed a complaint, and the action taken in response to it claims that Amazon is deceiving customers by offering sweets for sale under the name prasad from the Ayodhya Ram Temple, which is yet to be inaugurated.According to the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), these kinds of actions mislead customers about the real characteristics of the products and sway their decisions to buy based on false impressions. The CCPA in its statement said, Enabling the sale of food products online that make false representations misleads consumers regarding the genuine characteristics of the product. Such practice falsely influences consumers to make purchase decisions they might not have otherwise taken, had the accurate attributes of the product been mentioned.”Now, CCPA has asked Amazon to respond in seven days to the notice issued by the CCPA, failing which necessary actions will be initiated against the company under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. It is to be noted here that no e-commerce entity shall adopt any unfair trade practice under Rule 4(3) of the Consumer Protection (e-commerce) Rules, 2020, whether in the course of business on its platform or otherwise.
