As a part of the mega expansion, Air India may hire the cabin and cockpit crew of Go First Airlines, as they filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday. Notably, Air India has placed a historic order of 500 planes in the recent past, and the airlines will need a crew for the operations.
Recently, through their advertisement tagline, “Let’s fly to new heights, together,” Air India declared that they will be hiring 1,000 new pilots for its fleet. Reportedly, last month Air India had to reduce its flights, especially for the middle east regions due to the shortage of crew members.
The Air India advertisement reads, “Fly with Air India into the future, You have the opportunity to take part in the most thrilling aviation tale in the world when you fly with Air India. You may write your success narrative while being a part of history when more than 500 aircraft join our fleet. For Captains and First Officers, as well as Trainers, we are providing a variety of options for rapid advancement throughout our A320, B777, B787, and B737 fleets.”
According to an official, it will be a win-win situation for Air India to hire experienced crew members at a time as they hire around 600 additional cabin crew every six months.
Currently, Air India has 1,800 wide-body and narrow-body pilots operating a total of about 120 aircraft. Similar to Air India, it has a cabin crew of about 4,000 people. Narrow-body pilots are also needed by Air India, and 1,000 pilots are needed right now due to growth ambitions.
The airlines took action when Go First filed for bankruptcy. According to reports, Go First presently has 50 aircraft in its fleet, with 50 percent of them being grounded because of engine problems. However, Go First employs about 2,000 cabin staff and 800 cockpit staff.
Approximately 5,000 Go First employees are left in the dark about the company’s future operations due to the most recent turmoil. They are concerned about how many of its planes will fly and for how long if it does.
For a very long time, Go First has been struggling with money issues. It has previously given its workers extended unpaid leaves. Salary payments to employees have been delayed by up to two months, according to sources. The workforce is filled with a lot of uncertainty. Employees who have worked with Go First for several years are concerned about receiving their gratuities.
Interline agreements, which are used to transfer people or luggage between two or more airlines, have been inked by Tata-owned Air India and Vistara, a joint venture between the Indian conglomerate and Singapore Airlines. This is mostly used to transport people and their belongings to locations that need many stops. The implementation of Inter Airline Through Check-in (IATCI) is included in the scope of the agreement between the two airlines.
According to the information, the company already has close to 50 through check-in partnerships and over 100 interline arrangements with partner airlines across the world, including Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air Canada, and Singapore Airlines, among others.
After this, customers of Air India and Vistara can get their boarding passes at the first point of departure for the travel sectors on a single ticket and also have their baggage checked in through the final destinations.
Notably, this bilateral interline partnership will offer customers a seamless experience across the network of both airlines. It came into effect on April 5, 2023.
