The Covishield vaccine maker Serum Institute of India’s Adar Poonawalla, the owner and CEO has purchased a multi-million-pound mansion in London's Mayfair, which is anticipated to be the most expensive home sale of the year, according to the sources. 
According to various sources, Poonawalla has agreed to pay approximately 138 million pounds which is equivalent to ₹1446 crore for a 25,000 square foot mansion in Mayfair. This deal surpasses any other residential property sale in London this year.

Adar Poonawalla, who is a well-recognised figure in India and the global pharmaceutical industry closed the deal for the historic building with a unique architectural style. While the official confirmation from Adar Poonawalla is still awaited, numerous news sources cite reliable sources, making this purchase highly likely to be finalised.

The reports also claim that Adar Poonawala and his family has no plans to shift to London. But this property will serve as a base for the company and family during their visits to UK.

The Serum Institute was instrumental in the Covid pandemic, providing the Serum Covishield vaccine (a collaboration between AstraZeneca and Oxford University) that was widely utilised to vaccinate millions of people in India. Adar Poonawalla assumed leadership of the company as CEO in 2011.
