Patna, Bihar: Jitan Ram Manjhi, chief of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), is contemplating legal action against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following a heated exchange in the state assembly.
Kumar's outburst, described as using "unparliamentary words," has spurred Manjhi to explore legal avenues to address the insult.
Manjhi, the former Bihar CM, accused Kumar of harassment and initiated a Maun Dharna (silent protest) in Patna. He expressed that the verbal onslaught not only targeted him but also insulted Dalits, resonating beyond Bihar to the entire nation.
Speaking on the incident, Manjhi, representing the Mahadalit community, condemned Kumar's language. He stated that the derogatory remarks were not only disrespectful to him but also to Dalits nationwide. Manjhi, asserting his seniority in age and political experience, voiced his disappointment in the Chief Minister's conduct.
Manjhi alleged that the gates to BR Ambedkar's statue in front of Patna High Court were closed during his planned protest. Undeterred, he announced plans to visit Delhi's Rajghat after Chhath Puja to pray for Kumar's 'mental well-being.'
The discord between Kumar and Manjhi escalated on October 9 when Kumar, in response to Manjhi questioning the government's caste survey, unleashed a verbal tirade. Kumar's derogatory remarks led to chaos in the House.
Once an ally of Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United), Manjhi is now aligned with the BJP-led NDA. He assumed the role of Bihar's Chief Minister from May 20, 2014, to February 20, 2015, succeeding Kumar. In light of Kumar's recent outburst, Manjhi accused him of making him Chief Minister to further his own political agenda.
The brewing political tension raises questions about the dynamics within Bihar's political landscape, with Manjhi considering legal action as a response to the public insult.
