Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has discreetly introduced its highly anticipated electric vehicle (EV), the SU7, to the Indian market. Scheduled to be showcased at an event on July 9, this move suggests Xiaomi's strategic interest in potentially entering the Indian EV space.

Despite unveiling the SU7 in India, Xiaomi has not disclosed its specific launch strategy for the country, indicating a cautious approach to assessing market reception. The move coincides with Xiaomi's decade-long presence in India, underscoring its contemplation of venturing into the burgeoning Indian electric vehicle market.

Overview of Xiaomi SU7

The Xiaomi SU7, also known as the Speed Ultra, marks the tech giant's inaugural foray into the automotive sector, backed by a substantial $10 billion investment. Already launched in China with deliveries starting in March, the luxury electric sedan has garnered over 70,000 bookings, aiming for 100,000 deliveries by year-end.

Priced at approximately $30,000 (around 25 lakh), the Xiaomi SU7 presents a compelling option in the EV segment, positioned around $4,000 cheaper than Tesla's most affordable Model 3 in the country. Its debut in India coincides with the impending market entry of Tesla and the expanding footprint of Chinese automakers like BYD in the Indian passenger vehicle market.

Dimensions and Specifications

The Xiaomi SU7, measuring 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height, boasts a generous wheelbase of 3,000 mm. It features a spacious 105-litre frunk and a boot capacity of 517 litres. In terms of performance, the SU7 offers two variants in the Chinese market, with one variant providing up to 668 kilometres of range and the other achieving an impressive 800-kilometre range on a single charge. With a top speed of 265 kmph and acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in under three seconds, the SU7 promises sports car-like performance.

Xiaomi's entry into the Indian EV market with the SU7 signifies its ambition to carve a niche amid growing competition and consumer interest in electric mobility solutions.
