Automobile News: Environmental protection and women empowerment - Delhi government is going to take together on these two important fronts. Soon the proposed Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 may be approved, including a plan to provide large economic benefits to women on purchasing electric two-wheelers.

Special subsidy for women

Under the EV Policy 2.0, it is proposed to provide subsidy of up to Rs 36,000 to the first 10,000 driving licensed women. This subsidy will be decided on the basis of the battery capacity of the vehicle. The government is preparing to give an incentive amount of Rs 12,000 per kWh (KWH) per kW. Usually an electric scooter has a battery of 2 to 3 kwh, which can give women a total subsidy from Rs 24,000 to 36,000.

Petrol & diesel vehicles may be banned soon

It is also proposed in the policy that registration of new two-wheeler vehicles running from petrol, diesel and CNG in Delhi should be banned from 15 August 2026. This step will not only be important towards reducing pollution, but will also be helpful to bring electric vehicles into the mainstream.

Plan will be applicable till 2030

EV Policy 2.0 is planned to be implemented till 31 March 2030. This policy has been prepared as a complement to the Central Government's PM e-Drive Scheme. Initially its focus will be on two-wheeler vehicles, but gradually it can also include three-wheelers and commercial vehicles.

What is the effect of this step?

This proposal can not only prove to be important towards making women self -sufficient, but will also help in dealing with the problem of air pollution in a city like Delhi. Electric vehicles growing
