Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has taken an unexpected step by reportedly dismantling the charging team of Tesla in a recent round of layoffs, leaving many surprised by the decision.

This move comes despite Tesla's success in onboarding top automakers like Ford and General Motors to utilize its connectors within Tesla's Supercharger network. The network features the North American Charging Standard (NACS), a connector technology that has been gaining traction among major automakers in the industry.

Internal Communication and Layoffs

In an email addressed to senior staff members, Musk instructed them to terminate more employees who do not meet the standards of excellence, necessity, and trustworthiness or voluntarily resign from their positions.

One of the affected employees, Will Jameson, took to X to announce the disbandment of the entire charging organization. He expressed uncertainty about the future of the charging network, NACS, and the collaborative efforts made across the industry, describing the experience as a "wild ride."

Tesla's Future Plans

Despite the layoffs, Tesla plans to continue expanding its Supercharger infrastructure by building new locations where necessary and completing ongoing construction projects. Musk's email, as reported by TechCrunch, outlines the company's commitment to these developments.
These recent job cuts add to Tesla's history of workforce reductions, with a previous restructuring plan leading to the dismissal of over 10% of its global employees.
