Volkswagen India has finally come out with the launch of two much-awaited models in 2025—the hot Golf GTI and the upscale Tiguan R-Line SUV. Both the models will reach the showrooms by May, with the Golf GTI coming in its refreshed Mk 8.5 model and the Tiguan R-Line making an entry in its performance-bred avatar. Both these launches will satisfy performance-seekers as well as SUV fans and strengthen Volkswagen's Indian market presence.
The Golf GTI, which is launching in August 2025, is a driver enthusiast's dream car with its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor producing a massive 260 bhp. This hatchback icon features an aggressive appearance, marked by 18-inch Richmond diamond-cut alloy wheels, tartan-print seats, and a signature front grille. The cabin is driver enthusiast-focused, with a GTI-specific steering wheel for improved control. With its performance and appearance, the Golf GTI is poised to shake up India's hot hatch segment.
Tiguan R-Line: A Daring and Dynamic SUV Volkswagen will introduce the Tiguan R-Line in April 2025, with a sportier look and better dynamics. The performance SUV comes with a new front bumper with larger air intakes, which provides it with a commanding road presence. The Tiguan R-Line is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 186 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, which offers a thrilling drive while retaining the practicality of the world-famous Tiguan.
Ashish Gupta, Volkswagen India's Brand Director, was over the moon: "Volkswagen has always been associated with performance, safety, and build quality. We are excited to introduce India to two world legends—the Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI. These cars are aspirational and are sure to create waves among enthusiasts." Volkswagen was at a 3% year-to-date volume sales growth rate as of February 2025 and is dedicated to the provision of German-designed cars that prioritize safety as well as performance.
