New Delhi: Toyota recently stole the limelight at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 by showcasing an exciting array of future concept cars. Among these, the IMV 0 concept emerged as the crowd's favorite, capturing attention and sparking speculation about the future of Toyota's iconic utility vehicles. The IMV (Innovative International Multipurpose Vehicle) architecture, known for underpinning stalwarts like the Hilux and Fortuner, seems to be evolving with the introduction of the IMV 0 platform.

IMV 0: A glimpse into affordable future

The IMV 0 platform is poised to become the foundation for the upcoming Toyota Fortuner variants. Toyota, true to its promise, recently introduced the Hilux Champ in Thailand, priced attractively at US $13,000 (approximately Rs 10.81 lakh). While an official confirmation is pending, speculation is rife about the prospect of an affordable Fortuner, particularly tailored for Asian markets, making its debut soon.

Affordable Fortuner: Meeting market demands

Acknowledging the enduring popularity of the Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market, Toyota seems attuned to the demand for a more budget-friendly variant. Despite the Fortuner's consistent sales, the rising prices have made it less accessible to a broader audience. The IMV 0 platform aims to address this gap by providing a modular chassis that can potentially result in a more economical Fortuner.

Fortuner evolution: IMV 0 project in progress

Reports indicate that Toyota is actively engaged in developing an SUV project based on the IMV 0 platform. While this model may lack some of the premium features found in the current Fortuner, it promises to offer a robust, off-road-capable SUV tailored to meet the needs of cost-conscious consumers.

Innovative 48V mild hybrid diesel technology

Looking ahead, Toyota plans to integrate 48V mild hybrid diesel technology into the Fortuner lineup in India by 2024. This technology is designed not only to enhance performance and acceleration but also to deliver improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. Already featured in the Hilux in Europe and other markets, this technology represents Toyota's commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation.
