New Delhi: Bajaj Auto surprised motorcycle enthusiasts with the stealthy launch of the new Pulsar N160. This iteration boasts a significant upgrade – an inverted fork suspension – alongside smartphone connectivity features. While the price tag reflects this improvement with a bump of Rs 7,270 over the previous model, the N160 aims to deliver a more premium riding experience.

Enhanced handling and control

The centerpiece of the new N160 is the inverted fork suspension. This high-performance technology offers several advantages over traditional telescopic forks. Inverted forks provide increased rigidity, leading to sharper handling and improved feedback during braking and cornering. This translates to a more confident and connected riding experience, especially when tackling challenging roads.

Tech-savvy features for the modern rider

The new N160 caters to the tech-savvy rider with smartphone connectivity. Through Bajaj's RideConnect app, users can pair their smartphones with the motorcycle. This allows for features like call and SMS alerts, phone battery level indicator, and signal strength display directly on the LCD instrument console. While turn-by-turn navigation isn't available, the integration adds a layer of convenience and keeps riders connected on the go.

Competitive powertrain and updated aesthetics

The N160 retains the proven 164.82cc, air-oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that delivers 16 PS of power and 14.65 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox, and Bajaj claims a fuel efficiency of 44.38 Km/l. Real-world mileage figures may vary depending on riding conditions.

Bajaj has incorporated some subtle aesthetic changes. The N160 now features LED turn indicators and a revised design for the 'N160' emblem on the fuel tank. Additionally, the switchgear on the left handlebar has been updated with a new button for navigating the instrument console menus.

Competing in a crowded segment

The Bajaj Pulsar N160 enters a competitive segment in the Indian motorcycle market. It will face direct competition from popular offerings like the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V, Yamaha FZ-S Fi V3.0, Suzuki Gixxer, and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. With its inverted forks, smartphone connectivity, and competitive pricing (starting at Rs 1.39 lakh ex-showroom), the N160 positions itself as a compelling option for riders seeking a feature-rich and performance-oriented street motorcycle.
