Although Maruti Suzuki entered the electric vehicle (EV) race later than some competitors, the company is now intensifying its focus on the electric segment. Their inaugural electric vehicle, the eVX compact SUV, is slated for a 2025 release. Another significant project is the eWX, an affordable electric car aimed to rival models like the Tata Tiago and MG Comet EV.

Suzuki eWX Patented in India

The Suzuki eWX electric hatchback was recently showcased at the 2024 Bangkok Motor Show. Now, Suzuki has filed for the design patent of the eWX in India. The design remains largely unchanged from the model unveiled last year. In Suzuki’s nomenclature, the eWX is described as an EV miniwagon, boasting a quirky and appealing profile akin to the WagonR’s tallboy design.

Exterior Design Highlights

The eWX features unique exterior elements such as rectangular LED lights on the top and vertically positioned ice cube LED headlamps. The front bumper is prominent with hexagonal detailing, and the lighting design at the front is mirrored at the rear.

Additional highlights include substantial body cladding and smooth body panelling. The sheet metal on the bonnet and doors is predominantly flat, contributing to a clutter-free profile, consistent with the minimalist design trend in EVs globally. The Suzuki eWX measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height.

One of the most striking features is the neon yellow accents, prominently displayed on the front bumper, alloy wheels, and windows. The eWX design integrates various rounded rectangular shapes, creating a unique, friendly, and lively aesthetic.

Interior Design and Features

The interior design continues the theme of rounded rectangular shapes, evident in the dashboard, horizontally positioned integrated infotainment and instrument screens, and the control hub between the front seats.

The doors and seats follow the same design language, with the steering wheel adopting a rounded squarish form. The neon yellow theme extends throughout the dashboard, doors, and seats, enhancing the minimalistic and spacious feel of the interiors, prioritising comfort and roominess.

Range, Launch Date, and Pricing

Technical specifications for the eWX have not yet been disclosed. The concept version showcased a claimed range of 230 km, but the production model might offer a longer-range variant. The Maruti eWX is expected to hit showrooms around the financial year 2026-27.

With a high degree of localisation, Maruti Suzuki aims to price the eWX electric hatch competitively, likely starting between Rs 10 – 12 lakh. The cost could decrease further as battery technology becomes more affordable and large-scale production helps reduce overall expenses.

A Promising Contender in the EV Market

Maruti Suzuki’s eWX represents a significant step in the company’s EV strategy, aiming to provide an affordable yet stylish and practical electric vehicle for the Indian market. As the EV landscape evolves, the eWX is poised to be a strong competitor against established models like the Tata Tiago EV, marking an exciting future for electric mobility in India.
