Not Hero or Royal Enfield: This Indian auto giant ventures into 100th country now

New Delhi: Bajaj Auto, a prominent manufacturer of two-wheelers and three-wheelers, has marked a milestone with the inauguration of its new manufacturing plant in Manaus, Brazil. The ceremony, held recently, was attended by distinguished guests including the Governor of the Amazon state, dealers, and business partners. This move solidifies Bajaj Auto's presence in the international market, where it now operates in 100 countries worldwide.

Production capacity

Situated on a sprawling 9,600 square meters, the Manaus facility boasts a robust production capacity of 20,000 units annually on a single-shift basis. Equipped with state-of-the-art engine assembly, vehicle assembly, and testing facilities, the plant is designed to uphold stringent quality standards. Plans are already in motion to expand its production capacity to accommodate up to 50,000 units per year in the near future.

Advanced manufacturing capabilities

The Manaus facility stands out for its advanced automated production lines and integrated quality control systems. Multiple conveyor and transfer systems streamline the manufacturing process, ensuring efficiency and precision at every stage. Initially, the facility will focus on producing Bajaj Auto's Dominar models, with plans to introduce Pulsar models in the subsequent phases.

Rapid development in Manaus facility

Construction of the Manaus facility commenced in June 2023, and within a year, it was fully operational. The initial phase prioritized the sourcing, assembly, and testing of Dominar models, demonstrating Bajaj Auto's commitment to swift and effective expansion in the region. The facility has already attained ISO certification for its rigorous production processes.

Integration with local economy

Bajaj do Brasil, the Brazilian arm of Bajaj Auto, has successfully integrated local suppliers into its supply chain. Key motorcycle parts and components are now locally sourced from within Manaus, bolstering the region's economy while enhancing Bajaj Auto's manufacturing capabilities.
