New Delhi: In a strategic move to capitalise on the burgeoning automotive sector in India, Nissan is set to unleash a wave of innovation with the launch of five new models. While the company has gained recognition with its sub-4-metre compact SUV, Magnite, Nissan now aims to broaden its footprint in the Indian market. Let's delve into the intricacies of these upcoming models, which include an MPV, two SUVs, a facelift for the Magnite, and an entry-level electric vehicle (EV).

Magnite facelift

Since its debut in December 2020, the Nissan Magnite has secured its place as a popular choice in the sub-4-metre compact SUV segment. Despite its monthly sales surge, Nissan recognises the need to bridge the gap with segment leaders like Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. In response, the company is diligently working on the facelift variant of the Magnite, anticipated to hit the Indian market in 2024.

Duster-based Creta rival

Building on the success of the Duster, Nissan is in the works to introduce a new SUV based on the recently unveiled next-generation Duster. Expected to make its Indian debut in 2025, this SUV, along with its rebadged Nissan variant, signifies a pivotal move for both the Indian and global markets. Both models will share the innovative CMF-B platform and will be manufactured at Nissan's production plant in Chennai.

Safari and Alcazar Rival: Bigster-inspired SUV

Drawing inspiration from the Dacia Bigster concept unveiled in 2021, Nissan is developing its own variant of the Bigster SUV—a three-row SUV aimed at competing with the Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar. Based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's CMF-B platform, this SUV shares design elements with the Bigster concept, promising a blend of style, space, and performance for the Indian market.

Triber-based 3-line compact MPV

In a strategic collaboration with Renault, Nissan is working on a rebadged version of the popular Renault Triber MPV. Produced in the same Chennai plant as the Triber, this three-row MPV aims to position itself below the Magnite, catering to the mass market with an affordable price tag. Similar to the Triber, Nissan's variant will serve as a cost-effective alternative to other popular MPVs in its segment.

Nissan's entry-level EV

Amidst the growing momentum in the entry-level EV segment in India, Nissan is joining forces with Renault to unveil a new entry-level hatchback. Built on the CMF-AEV platform, this electric hatchback is designed to be a global model, with both Renault and Nissan offering their unique variants. This initiative reflects Nissan's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions in an era increasingly shaped by electric vehicles.

Nissan X-Trail

In addition to the aforementioned models, the pre-facelift Nissan X-Trail has been spotted testing in India. While its official launch is uncertain, this SUV could potentially enter the Indian market through the CBU route. Competing with the likes of Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson, and Citroen C5, the X-Trail represents Nissan's ambition to offer a premium SUV experience to Indian consumers.

Nissan's ambitious plan to introduce these five new models underscores its commitment to innovation and diversification in the Indian automotive landscape. As we await the official unveilings, the prospect of Nissan's strategic expansion positions the company as a key player in shaping the future of the Indian automotive industry.
