Update for CNG car owners: As a CNG vehicle owner, an important change is on the horizon that could affect you from next month, November.

The impending alteration dictates that you must possess a CNG kit installation certificate. If you don't already have this certificate, it's crucial to contact your dealer as soon as possible to ensure compliance.

Government Action on Safety Standards

While the government has yet to issue an official notification regarding this change, there have been reports that new regulations are in the works, aiming to enhance safety standards in CNG vehicles.

Delhi's CNG Landscape

Statistically, in India's capital, Delhi, 30 to 35 per cent of vehicles operate on CNG. However, only 10 to 15 per cent of these vehicles come with company-fitted CNG kits. Most are retrofitted with CNG kits purchased from the market, which may compromise safety.

The government's proposed changes aim to eliminate the possibility of fraud and enhance safety measures, given the prevalence of unauthorised CNG kit installation centres.

Prior CNG Regulations

The government has previously introduced several rules concerning CNG vehicles. These include mandatory hydrogen cylinder testing every four years and the requirement to display a passing certificate plate near the CNG nozzle.

If your vehicle runs on CNG and you currently lack the necessary certificate, or if it has been misplaced, it's advisable to secure it promptly.

Although these changes are not yet in effect, an official government notification is expected to be issued in the near future.

Stay updated for further developments.
