New Delhi: Recent developments suggest that the iconic Ford Endeavour may be poised for a comeback in the Indian automotive arena. While no official statement has been issued by Ford, the filing of a patent for the new generation Endeavour hints at a potential re-entry into the Indian market. Such a move could intensify competition, particularly with rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. Here's what we know so far.

Ford's strategic moves

In a noteworthy turn of events, Ford recently declined to sell its Chennai plant to the JSW Group, raising speculation about the American automaker's future plans in India. The filing of a patent for the new Endeavour adds another layer to this narrative, suggesting a strategic comeback. Job listings from the manufacturer in recent weeks further fuel the anticipation of Ford's resurgence in the Indian automotive landscape.

Design dynamics

Examining the design aspects of the speculated new Endeavour, it takes on a somewhat classic appearance compared to its predecessor. The SUV features LED headlamps, a commanding grille, and a robust bumper complemented by distinctive C-shaped daytime running lamps. Sporting 21-inch alloy wheels and an extended wheelbase of 50 mm, the SUV's rear profile presents a departure with a flatter design and distinct LED tail lamps.

Interior sophistication

Stepping inside, the new Endeavour showcases a revamped cabin equipped with a digital instrument cluster and a vertically oriented infotainment system. Offering support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the SUV integrates modern connectivity features. Additional interior highlights include front parking sensors, wireless charging, USB ports, and a 360-degree parking camera. In the safety department, the Endeavour is well-equipped with traction control, stability control, hill hold control, hill descent control, a tire pressure monitoring system, 7 airbags, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Under the hood

In the global market, the Ford Endeavour is known as the Everest and is available with 2.0-litre turbo diesel and 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engines. The former generates 168 bhp, while the bi-turbo variant produces an impressive 208 bhp. Torque outputs stand at 405 Nm and 500 Nm, respectively. The turbo diesel engine pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the bi-turbo variant opts for a 10-speed automatic transmission. Both configurations offer SelectShift, and Ford provides choices between 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.

As the anticipation builds, the potential return of the Ford Endeavour promises to inject fresh energy into the SUV segment, setting the stage for a captivating showdown with existing players like the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. The automotive landscape awaits an official announcement to confirm these exciting speculations.
