Numerous traffic rules now incur fines of up to Rs 25 thousand, coupled with the potential for driving license cancellation and additional penalties. For individuals who have customised their bikes, vigilance is paramount, and immediate removal of modifications is advised to avoid repercussions. Here, we outline three critical conditions of modification that may lead to hefty challans.Challan for two-wheeler modificationsAny alterations made to two-wheelers, be it bikes or scooters, are under strict scrutiny. The police are confiscating modified bikes and issuing challans, deeming modifications illegal under the new traffic rules. Offenders may face fines, and their bikes are susceptible to seizure.Invoice for modified silencersA popular trend involves modifying bike silencers, with particular enthusiasm for the silencers used by Royal Enfield Bullet. Individuals install silencers that produce loud noises or even release firecrackers. Traffic police are vigilant in penalising those using such modified silencers, citing them as contributors to noise pollution.Challan for fancy number platesThe usage of fancy number plates is deemed illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act. The government has established a style sheet for number plates, requiring all digits to be clearly visible and not stylised. RTO-certified number plates are mandated.
