New Delhi: Tesla's much-anticipated Cybertruck, known for its ruggedness, has sparked controversy after a video emerged showing it failing to start following a simple wash. This incident raises questions about the electric vehicle's durability and quality control, potentially tarnishing its image as an indestructible powerhouse.

Previously in the spotlight

Last year, a collision between a Cybertruck and a Toyota car brought the Cybertruck's resilience to light. The Toyota sustained significant damage, while the Cybertruck remained largely unscathed. This incident cemented the Cybertruck's reputation for being a near-invulnerable machine.

From hero to zero?

However, a recent video shared by a Cybertruck owner paints a different picture. The video depicts the owner's ordeal after washing their Cybertruck for the first time. Following the wash, the Cybertruck inexplicably stopped functioning. The owner attempted Tesla's recommended troubleshooting methods, but the vehicle remained unresponsive. Additionally, the screen shut down and refused to turn back on, accompanied by strange noises emanating from the dashboard.

Reboot to the rescue

The owner, understandably frustrated, attempted a system reset. This resulted in a bizarre occurrence - an unusual sound erupted from the dashboard. After multiple failed attempts, the owner gave up for the night. Fortunately, upon trying again the next morning, the Cybertruck miraculously started after a complete reboot.

Cause for concern?

This incident appears to be an isolated case, but it raises significant concerns nonetheless. Tesla, known for its cutting-edge technology, is expected to deliver vehicles that can withstand everyday situations, including a car wash. The Cybertruck's inability to function after a wash is a cause for apprehension, especially considering its premium price tag (over Rs 50 lakh).

A technical marvel or overhyped enigma?

Despite this recent setback, the Cybertruck boasts impressive features and specifications. Offered in three variants (rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and Cyberbeast), it boasts a futuristic, boxy design. The body panels are crafted from a special stainless steel super alloy, making it incredibly strong and even bulletproof.

Inside the Cybertruck

The Cybertruck's interior reflects Tesla's minimalist design philosophy, featuring a white and gray theme. The dashboard layout is uncluttered, dominated by a large 18.5-inch touchscreen display. The steering wheel, a signature Tesla design element, is square-shaped. For added convenience, the Cybertruck features child locks, headlamp controls, sentry mode, a car wash mode (ironically!), and other functionalities. Rear passengers are treated to a dedicated 9.4-inch touchscreen as well.

Will the Cybertruck deliver on its promises?

With its initial deliveries slated for 2029, the Cybertruck has a long road ahead. Tesla has a lot to prove in terms of addressing durability concerns and ensuring quality control. Only time will tell if the Cybertruck can live up to its image as a revolutionary electric vehicle or if it will remain an enigma shrouded in controversy.
