Amavasya, often referred to as the new moon day or the day without a moon, is regarded as a highly lucky day for making prayers to our ancestors. All auspicious Vaishakh Amavasya actions can be finished during the day since there wont be a sutak.Date and TimeThe Amavasya will begin at 11.23 am on April 19 and ends at 9.14 am on April 20, according to the Hindu Panchang.Significance of the dayAccording to the Hindu scripture known as the Garuda Purana, Lord Vishnu declared that on this day of Amavasya, our ancestors come to Earth. Therefore, to please them, descendants should pray and provide food. On this day, people fast and perform puja in remembrance of their ancestors. Another popular belief is that one can atone for past crimes by keeping a fast. Shraddh rites are carried out on Amavasya to appease and honour ancestors. Kaal Sarp Dosh puja is also conducted on this day.Puja and ritualsTake a bath to begin your day at Brahma Muhurat. You may choose to fast as well. Then make a prayer to the Lord Sun. Try offering sesame seeds to the water of the holy river and the peepal tree. To help the impoverished and Brahmans, one can also provide food and clothing.
