Goddess Chandraghanta is the married form the Goddess Parvati. According to scriptures, after getting married to Lord Shiva Devi Mahagauri started adorning her forehead with half Chandra, after which she was named Goddess Chandraghanta. According to mythology, Goddess Chandraghanta is worshipped on Day 3 of Navratri.

There is a specific planet which is governed by the nine forms of Goddess Durga, and it is believed that the planet Venus (Shukra) is governed by Goddess Chandraghanta.

Iconography:

The Goddess Chandraghanta rides atop the tigress. She has a Chandra (a semicircular moon) adornment on her forehead. She is referred to as Chandra-Ghanta because the half-moon on her forehead resembles the bell (Ghanta). She appears to have ten hands. Goddess Chandraghanta holds the Trishul, Gada, Sword, and Kamandal in her four left hands while maintaining the Varada Mudra in her fifth left hand. She holds a lotus flower, an arrow, a Dhanush, and a Japa Mala in each of her four right hands, while she maintains the Abhaya Mudra with her fifth right hand.

In this form of Goddess Durga, Goddess Parvati is calm and devoted to the wellbeing of her followers. Goddess Chandraghanta is fully equipped for battle in this incarnation. It’s thought that the moon-bell’s ringing noise on her forehead.
