On the second day of Navratri, prayers are offered to the goddess Brahmacharini. According to mythology, Goddess Parvati was born in her Kushmanda form at the residence of Daksha Prajapati. It is said that Goddess Parvati was a powerful Sati in this form, and her unmarried form is revered as Goddess Brahmacharini.

According to Drik Panchang, the Dwitiya Tithi of Shardiya Navratri will begin on October 16 at 12:32 am and end on October 17 at 1:13 am.

In order to win Lord Shiva as her husband, Goddess Brahmacharini underwent rigorous austerity. She underwent strict austerity, for which reason she was given the name Brahmacharini.

It is said that during her austerity, she spent a thousand years eating only flowers and fruits and another one hundred years only eating leafy vegetables while she slept on the ground.

She also adhered to a rigid fasting schedule while staying outside during sweltering summers, chilly winters, and torrential downpours. She reportedly ate only Bilva leaves for 3000 years while praying to Lord Shankar, according to Hindu mythology. Later, she stopped drinking water and stopped eating bilva leaves as she continued her austerity. Aparna was her name back then.
