Shardiya Navratri is celebrated in the month of Ashwini. It is believed that Goddess Durga took the incarnation on the earth, this day.

According to Hindu Panchang, Shardiya Navratri will begin on October 15, a day after Sarvpitru Amavasya which will be observed on October 14, 2023. Preparations for Navratri start well in advance, but people do get confuse, as in when to buy items needed for Navratri puja. Apart from this, it is also believed that one should not buy anything during Pitru Paksha as it is not considered auspicious.

But here’s is the answer to this. It is believed, that one can buy the puja material and can-do other shopping for Navratri after bidding farewell to ancestors on Sarvpitru Amavasya. People can start the buying the things required for the auspicious occasion after the noon or evening of Sarvpitru Amavasya.

So, if you are also planning to buy puja material on Shardiya Navratri, then you can buy it after immersing the ancestors on Sarvpitru Amavasya on October 14.

As per mythology, Navratri is celebrated for nine days. On each day, a different incarnation of Maa Durga is celebrated.

On the first day of Navratri, the Shailputri form of Goddess Durga is worshipped. Apart from Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri are the forms of Maa Durga. During Navratri, the celebrations begin after Ghatasthapana or Kalash Sthapana to worship Maa Durga.
