Amavasya Tithi Shradh or Sarvpitru Amavasya is performed for those deceased family members who died on Amavasya Tithi, Purnima Tithi and Chaturdashi Tithi. This year, Amavasya Shradh will be performed on October 14, 2023 in Pitru Paksha.

It is believed that of someone is not able to perform Shradh on all the Tithis, then he can perform Shradh (for all) only on Amavasya Tithi. According to mythology, it is said that Shradh performed on Amavasya Tithi is sufficient to appease the spirits of all the ancestors of the family. It is known as Amavasya Shradh is also known as Sarvapitri Moksha Amavasya.

Apart from this, people who died on Purnima Tithi, Mahalaya Shradh is also performed on Amavasya Shradh Tithi and not on Bhadrapada Purnima.

It is to be noted here that although Bhadrapada Purnima Shradh falls a day before Pitru Paksha, it is not a part of Pitru Paksha. Generally, Pitru Paksha starts from the next day of Bhadrapada Purnima Shradh.

Amavasya Shradh is also known as Amavasya Shradh. Notably, Mahalaya Amavasya marks the beginning of Navratri festival in West Bengal and all over India. Devotees of Goddess Durga believe that on this day Goddess Durga was incarnated on earth.

  • Rohin Muhurta – 12:31 PM to 01:17 PM, Duration – 00 hours 46 minutes
  • Afternoon Time – 01:17 PM to 03:35 PM, Duration – 02 hours 18 minutes
  • Here’s are some ways by which you can get the blessings of your ancestors:

During Pitru Paksha, perform Tarpan and Shradh as per rituals for the ancestors. Provide food to Brahmins and give donations. Also, on every Ekadashi, Chaturdashi, Amavasya of the year, offer water to the ancestors and perform Tripandi Shradh.

What to do to seek blessings of ancestors?

According to mythology it is said that is someone from the family worship the Peepal tree every noon, it clears their way to Vaikunth. To please the ancestors, offer black sesame seeds, milk, Akshat and flowers in Peepal water. It is considered one of the effective remedies for pacifying Pitra Dosh, as per astrology.

During Pitru Paksha, light an oil lamp in the south direction of the house every evening. You can do this daily also, which helps in the elimination of Pitra Dosh.

The ancestors become happy by providing food to a needy person, charity or helping in the marriage of a poor girl. By doing this Pitra Dosh starts getting calmed.

Place the pictures of ancestors in the south direction of the house. Ask them for forgiveness for your mistakes every day. It is said that this reduces the effect of Pitra Dosh.

People who have Pitra dosh in their horoscope. They should take this great measure. With this the ancestors are pleased and Pitra Dosh is eliminated.

After this, light a lamp of pure desi ghee near the tree and chant the mantra ‘Om Sarva Pitri Devaya Namah’.
